Build your own setup
With ‘build your own setup’ our company Rainbow Sensing will assist you establishing your own station setup. We go through a co-design /co-development cycle. First, we jointly outline requirements, and expected environmental conditions. Think for instance of a design for extreme hot or humid conditions, or a station, that requires additional sensors that should report over a Modbus interface and store data in ORC-OS’s database. We then establish a full “Bill of materials” using parts that work for you. We co-produce one station, and install it at your first site. After the handover, you can maintain and reproduce the station yourself! As outputs you will have one installed and running station equipped with ORC-OS and entirely configured, a bill of materials, a schematic, and a flow diagram for building and testing a new station.
Training and capacity development
To get started with camera based observations, you will likely need training in how to design and equip a site, how to perform camera calibration and field surveying, how to automate processing, how to set up and maintain a central server, automation workflows for decision support or a tailored training for your specific needs. We can also provide training for field observations with mobile platforms such as drones. We always use OpenRiverCam as a basis for processing, provide excellent training materials for use and re-use internally, and provide reference to our online documentation for further use, or scientific papers and documents for further studying and reading. Research and Development
We have a wide experience in research, with strong collaborations in academia. Rainbow Sensing works with Delft University of Technology, IHE Delft and University of Trento on new cutting edge methods all with a foundation in enabling the use of IoT-based sensing in practical, affordable applications such as bathymetry reconstruction, current detection, and flood forecasting. We work on methods development, software engineering, experiments for piloting and validation and integration in services. We are for instance member of and Work Package leader in the TEMBO-Africa project and as such very well positioned to take part in large research projects developing key new knowledge around IoT-based sensing for your organization, and the broader community as a whole. We also are at the forefront of development of the new velocimetry method Image Wave Velocimetry Estimation (IWaVE) enabling detection of advective motion in highly complex wave environments such as tidal estuaries, wind dominated surfaces and infrastructure. Consultancy
Our team has a vast experience in demand-driven consultancy work in international context, e.g. for international financing institutes such as the World Bank. We are able to rapidly set up monitoring workflows with local partners, e.g. to collect data for model calibration, which in turn can be used for flood risk assessment, early warning, or water management. We do this with the additional aim to improve the ability of local people to collect, use and maintain valuable datasets. Furthermore, we have an active network in Africa with many stakeholders and possible partner institutes. In consultancy work with OpenRiverCam we can develop international training programs for NHMSs, develop monitoring capacity, assist in developing in-situ datasets of water levels and river flows in collaboration with local partners, or develop Proof-of-Concepts for model systems, decision support systems and forecast systems.
